Working With ZIP Files

Zipping files is a way to compress the files into a much smaller file size, creating a single .ZIP file. This not only saves hard drive space but makes it much easier to share data over the Internet. Windows XP comes with built-in support for ZIP files, allowing users to easily create and open ZIP files.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click on a ZIP compressed archive file and click "Extract All..."

    • 2

Click the "Next" button to begin the Extraction Wizard.

    • 3

Click the "Browse" button to select a folder where the extracted files will be saved. Click the "Next" button.

    • 4

Wait while Windows XP extracts the compressed files and saves them to the folder specified earlier.

    • 5

Put a check mark in the box to have Windows open the folder where the extracted files are saved, or leave it blank to choose to not view the extracted files.

    • 6

      Click the "Finish" button.
