If you have a large library of music CDs and want to upload your favorite songs to your iPod, you can do so using iTunes--the default iPod management program. iTunes rips music CDs and converts the songs to a digital format, which your iPod is able to read. Using these simple steps and guidelines, rip your favorite CDs and upload music to your iPod so you can listen to it anywhere you go.

      Insert your music CD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive on your computer and launch iTunes. When you launch iTunes, you should see your CD in the left pane under "Devices."

      Click your CD under "Devices." You should see a list of the CD tracks in the right pane. Select the songs you want to upload to the iTunes library and then click "Import CD." iTunes imports the CD music to the library. When the process completes, click the "Music" tab in the left pane under "Library." You should see a list of the songs that you uploaded to the iTunes library.

      Click the plus symbol (+) in the lower left corner to create a new playlist and then name the playlist whatever you want. After creating your playlist, click the "Music" tab under "Library" again and then drag the songs you uploaded from your music CD to the playlist that you just created. When you finish dragging the songs, click the playlist to verify that all the songs have been included.

      Connect your iPod to the computer using the USB cable that came with your media player. You should see your iPod in the left pane under "Devices." Click your iPod and then click the "Music" tab. Click the "Sync Music" check box and then click the "Selected playlists, artists and genres" radio button. Select the playlist that contains the songs you ripped from your music CD and then click "Sync." iTunes uploads the CD music to your iPod.

      Right-click your iPod under "Devices" when you get the confirmation that the sync process is complete. Click "Eject" and then disconnect your iPod from your computer. Right-click your CD under "Devices" and click "Eject." Remove your CD from the CD/DVD-ROM.
