How to Use Torrents to Download Movies

How to Use Torrents to Download Movies thumbnail
Movies are popular files that can be downloaded through the use of torrent files.

A torrent is a container file that is used to download files using a peer to peer connection. By using a torrent client, you connect to other users who are also downloading the same torrent file. These users share the file by uploading the portions of the file they have already downloaded. The more users who are downloading and uploading the torrent, the faster the download will be for everyone. Movies and music are popular files that can be downloaded in the torrent format.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a torrent client (see Resources). You will need this program to manage the download. The client will connect you to other users, so you can share the torrent for download and upload from each other.

    • 2

Install the client by clicking the icon that is created on your desktop. These programs will have step-by-step installation guides.

    • 3

Set the directory on your computer where the files will be downloaded to by clicking the "Options" tab and clicking "Preferences" from the drop-down menu. Choose a directory location on your computer.

Use a search engine to find the torrent file you wish to download. If you want to download a movie, then you need to search for that movie's torrent file. A Google search will yield the results you are looking for. Find the site that has the file you are looking for and download the torrent file to your computer's hard drive.

Open the file within the torrent client by clicking "File>Open" at the top of the torrent client window. Highlight the torrent you wish to download by clicking on the file. Then, click the "Open" button to add the torrent to the torrent client. The torrent will begin downloading once it has connected to another user.

Tips & Warnings

  • Files can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to download using torrents. It all depends on how many people are downloading or uploading the file. Your torrent client will track how many people are downloading and uploading the file you are downloading.

  • Copyright laws apply to films that you download on the Internet. Only download files that you already own legal copies of.
