How to Set Up HD DirecTV

Watch high definition television.

As with most large television providers, DirecTV allows you to receive HD programming. HD, or high definition, can have an aspect ratio of up to 1080 horizontal lines (as opposed to 480 from standard definition television). DirecTV's HD costs $10 more than your standard package and can add close to 200 additional high-definition channels to your programming.

Things You'll Need

• HD receiver
• HDMI cable
• HDTV

Instructions

1. Contact DirecTV (1-888-777-2454) and upgrade your current service. You need to set up a time for a service technician to stop by and install the upgraded satellite dish and receiver.

2. Connect the coaxial cable running from the wall (from the satellite dish) and insert it into the "In" port on your receiver.

3. Plug an HDMI cable into the HDMI port of your HD receiver. An HDMI cable is a single cable that provides both the high-definition audio and video signals.

4. Insert the opposite end of the HDMI cable into an HDMI port on your television.

5. Power on the DirecTV receiver and your HD television. Push the "Input" button on your TV remote control and select "HDMI" to begin viewing your HD DirecTV content.
