1
Send out invitations. For a garden party, choose floral print invitations to coincide with the outdoor event. If you are not giving guests a dress code, be sure you clearly note on the invitation that the party will be held outside so guests can dress accordingly. A good wording to use is, "Enjoy the fabulous weather at ___'s garden party! Dress in your spring best for this festive occasion."

2
Tend to the yard. Make sure the lawn is well manicured, weeds are pulled and flowers are in full bloom. Add a few extra flowers in small vases to infuse color.

3
Choose what food and drinks you'll serve. A garden party works best with buffet-style food stations. Have real or disposable plates and utensils stacked for guests, so they can serve themselves. Limit the types of drinks served to make it easier on yourself, and always include a non-alcoholic beverage such as lemonade. Serve a signature cocktail with pomegranate or mangos for a fruity treat that fits the warm weather.
-
4
Prep outdoor furniture. Make sure all furniture is wiped down the morning of the party. Doing it any sooner is pointless since debris and dust can collect in the days leading up to the event. Wipe down tables and chairs with a clean damp rag.
-
5
Deck out the area for your guests. For a garden party held in the day, create a shaded area for guests to retreat from the sun. A small pail with a few bottles of sunscreen is also a nice touch. For an evening affair, add outdoor lights to a fence or patio.
-
6
Add some music. Music creates a warm ambiance for any party. Play jazz songs or any music that is low key and in tune with the season.

Tips & Warnings
Create a bar area by setting up a table with a cooler next to it. Place a pitcher of a mixed cocktail on the table, along with the ingredients for guests to make their own cocktail. Staples include a real fruit juice, tequila or vodka and lemons and limes to garnish.
