Toothpaste can be used to repair scratched game discs.

Scratched game discs can cause a number of frustrating problems during gameplay. The game could freeze or skip, and sometimes the game console won't even recognize the disc as a game and will display a "Disc Read Error" or "Disc Load Error." Typically, this occurs because the disc is dirty or scratched. If this is the case, you can clean up and repair your scratched and dirty discs in just a few simple steps using common toothpaste.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe away any dust or other stuck-on particles using the cloth. It's important to work with a clean disc so that you don't create more scratches.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the data side of the game disc and use your fingers to rub the toothpaste into the surface of the disc. Work gently and in small, circular motions.

    • 3

Rinse the toothpaste off the disc with lukewarm water. Make absolutely sure there is no residue left on the disc.

    • 4

Shake off any excess water from the disc and dry it off with the lint-free cloth. Be sure the disc is completely dry before loading it into your game console.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid gel-based toothpastes when cleaning game discs; they don't work as well.
