How to Buy Good Luggage
No matter how often you travel, good luggage is an investment that is worth making. Whether your luggage is at the bottom of a pile of other suitcases in an airplane, shoved into an overhead bin or packed tightly into the trunk of your car, that luggage is all that's protecting your personal belongings. While bag luggage may damage your things, good luggage is something that can be there for you for years to come. So give yourself one less thing to worry about when traveling and buy good luggage.

1
Look for luggage in a store first. Large retail stores like Macy's and JCPenney have large selections of good luggage. Even if you plan to buy your luggage online, there are certain things that you're going to want to be sure of, such as the ease of transporting it or working zippers, before you make such an important purchase. If you do buy luggage online without seeing it first, make sure it can be returned if it is not satisfactory.

2
Determine what your needs are when it comes to luggage. If you travel for business, you may just need a suitcase and a carry-on. But if you need luggage for vacations with the whole family, you may need an entire set of luggage.

3
Pay attention to the frame, which lines the interior of each piece of luggage. Graphite or composite frames are ideal for keeping your luggage from closing in on your personal items in a tight situation. You can find the type of frame on the tag on the luggage. Cheaper pieces of luggage sometimes have frames made out of hard plastic.

4
Choose luggage with nylon fabric if you are using your luggage mostly for clothes or less valuable everyday items. If you are transporting more valuable equipment, you may want to consider buying luggage with a hard case for added protection.
-
5
Test out the luggage before you buy it. Pull out the handle on the suitcases and try rolling them to make sure the wheels function smoothly. Test out all of the zippers. If there is a problem with anything in the store, there will likely be multiple problems in the future.

Find a style you like, such as shoulder bag, a rolling suitcase or a garment bag to keep your clothes from getting wrinkled. While most business travelers stick to a simple black or blue color, patterned luggage is also available. While the quality of the luggage is the most important factor, you still want to be able to travel with luggage that fits your own personal style.

7
Get the quality of your luggage guaranteed with a warranty. Good luggage isn't cheap, so if something goes wrong, you want to make sure you can get a new product or your money back. While some warranties come just with buying the luggage, such as Samsonite's 10-year warranty, other warranties need to be purchased through the store. Make sure your warranty falls into the five- to 10-year range. For example, if your next vacation isn't for another two or three months, a one-month warranty isn't going to do much good.
