How to Make a Paper Card Holder

How to Make a Paper Card Holder thumbnail
Protect your business cards with a paper card holder.

You can make a card holder out of paper to hold business cards in. Use the card holder to keep the cards clean and prevent the edges of the cards from bending or fraying when you slip your business cards into a shirt pocket or into the pocket in a purse. For individual card holders, personalize them with stickers, drawings or monograms on the front. They make great gifts for friends, family or clients.

Things You'll Need

  • Brown craft paper, 12" x 12"
  • Business card
  • Pencil
  • Pinking shears
  • Thread, your choice of color
  • Needle or sewing machine
  • Stickers or ink stamps (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Fold a piece of craft paper in half.

    • 2

Trace the edges of a business card with a pencil onto one side of the craft paper.

    • 3

Keep the craft paper folded and cut about a half inch around the outside of the rectangular business card tracing using pinking shears. You should now have two equal rectangular-shaped pieces.

    • 4

Keep the pieces of paper lined up on top of each other and thread the needle or sewing machine.

    • 5

Sew three sides of the two pieces of paper together, keeping one short side open. Be sure to sew as close to the edge of the zig-zag cut as possible, without sewing on top of the zig-zagged part, to ensure that you have enough room in the holder to slip the cards into. Use whatever size or style stitching you prefer.

    • 6

Decorate the sides with stickers or decorative ink stamps as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to carry a large stack of cards in the holder, cut the paper an inch or more from the traced business card to allow for a wider pocket.

  • Rather than choosing brown, use a bright, contrasting color thread to make the card holder stand out and look more stylish.
