Handmade shower invitations can be elegant.

Creating your own baby shower invitations is an affordable option for any shower hostess and can serve as a thoughtful keepsake for the guest of honor. Handmade baby shower invitations also have the potential to be more intricate than their store bought counterparts and may be easier to use since all layout and formatting decisions are made by the hostess. If the guest list is not exceptionally large, designing your own baby shower invitations is an economical option.

Instructions

    • 1

Coordinating cardstock and scrapbooking paper can be found at your local craft store. Look for plain cardstock and pair it with baby-themed scrapbooking paper that has the same color or a complementary one. Embellish with gender-specific colored baby feet, rubber ducky stickers, or baby-related phrases that can inform the guests of the anticipated sex or if the mother is expecting multiples.

    • 2

Cut the cardstock in half width-wise. The cardstock will be the backing of the invitation to which all other pieces are attached. After cutting, you will have two pieces of cardstock that can each be used to make an invitation measuring 8 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches.

    • 3

Cut the coordinating scrapbook paper. Because this will lay on top of the piece of cardstock and contain all of the shower details, it should be slightly smaller than the cardstock. Measure, mark and then cut 1 inch from the top of the paper and 1 inch from the right side of the paper so the new dimensions are 7 1/2 by 10 inches. Cut the scrapbook paper in half width-wise, resulting in two pieces of paper, each measuring 7 1/2 by 5 inches.

    • 4

Print or hand write shower details. If printing from a computer, be sure to adjust the measurements of the document in the word processing program to reflect the new dimensions of the paper on which you will be printing. This will allow for proper spacing and a visually appealing layout that is easy to read. Include all shower details, such as the location, date, time, name of the guest of honor, gender of the baby (if known) and theme of the shower.

    • 5

Attach the coordinating scrapbook paper to the cardstock. Using an acid free glue stick or double-sided tape, center and attach the top piece of paper to the cardstock.

Tips & Warnings

  • Punch two holes near the top of the invitation 1/4 inch apart and use ribbon in a coordinating color to tie a bow.

  • Ribbon may also be used to attach a piece of vellum to cover the invitation.
