      Contact your local telephone company to inquire about high speed dial-up service. Subscribe to the high speed package if it is available. The telephone company will then be referred to as your ISP (Internet service provider).

      The company will send you the software that is needed to get online with the dial-up connection. After you install the high speed dial-up software onto your computer, you can start using the Internet.

      Contact an ISP that provides high speed dial-up services regardless of your geographical location. A few of the ISPs who provide high speed dial up around the globe are 550Access, NetZero, CopperNet, Turbo USA and Toast.

      The ISP will send you the software that needs to be installed on your computer to use the super fast dial-up connection. Depending upon the ISP, this may be a CD software installation or an installation that is done by clicking on an email link. After the software has been installed, you can start using the Internet.

      Verify that you have a 56K modem installed on your computer and that the modem is properly configured to get the highest speeds. To check your modem, click on "Control Panel" and "Phone & Modem." Select your modem under the "Modem" tab and click "Properties." Click the "Modem" tab again.       Try changing your access telephone numbers if you notice that your dial-up service is starting to slow down. By changing your access number, you can choose a number that is less congested.       Clear your cookies and history on a regular basis. This information regarding your browsing patterns and browsing history is stored in your browser. As this information accumulates, it can slow down your dial-up connection.

      To clear your Internet Explorer browser, click on "Tools," "Internet Options." Look under the "General" tab. Click the "Delete" button that is located in the "Browsing History" section. For Firefox, click on "Tools" and "Options." Click the "Privacy" tab. You will see all of the buttons that can be clicked to clear your cookies and history.
