Use an adapter to connect this RCA video plug to S-video

RCA and S-video cables are equipped with different jacks that offer two ways to connect video components. Many newer electronic devices are equipped with both, but some types of equipment have only one or the other. Uniting two video devices with different connections is possible with an RCA to S-video adapter cable, available at electronics stores. The adapter wires two different cable types together so each can be hooked up to a compatible video device.

Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the RCA cable and the S-video cable from any devices while wiring the two cables together.

    • 2

      Insert the plug on one end of the RCA cable into the round RCA socket on the adapter, pushing firmly until it clicks.

    • 3

      Line up the four metal pins in the S-video plug on the other side of the adapter with the four holes in the S-video socket on the cable. Push the adapter plug onto the cable socket.

    • 4

      Reconnect the RCA plug on one end of the connected cable to the RCA video jack on one device. Reconnect the S-video plug on the opposite end of the cable to the S-video socket on the other device.

Tips & Warnings

  • Turn off electronic equipment when connecting or disconnecting video cables.
