How to Disinfect Furniture

Disinfect furniture to remove germs from your home

Bacteria grows on furniture either when food spills, an accident occurs or someone's clothing transfers it. To keep your home clean and germ free, disinfect the furniture to kill any bacteria to keep you and your family safe. Furniture can be disinfected with just a few inexpensive cleaning ingredients.

Things You'll Need

• Spray bottle
• Vinegar
• Disinfectant wipes
• Water

Instructions

1. Wipe down furniture surfaces with disinfectant wipes. Several companies make these wipes, which can be found with cleaning supplies in any grocery or home improvement store. Wipes work especially well on wood furniture, outdoor furniture and similar nonporous surfaces.

2. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar for a more natural disinfectant solution.

3. Spray the solution onto the furniture surface. This solution will be mild enough for any furniture surface yet strong enough to kill lingering bacteria. The vinegar spray works best on fabrics and upholstered furniture, where the vinegar can absorb and penetrate into the material, killing bacteria along the way.
