How to Convert a DVD to AVI in Freeware on a Mac
DVDs files use the file extension .TS which stands for Video Transport Stream File, according to fileinfo.com. They contain compressed MEPG-2 video data. .AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave File. Created by Microsoft, an .AVI file is a container that can hold all different kinds of compressed video and audio files. If you want to convert a DVD into AVI on a Mac you need to rip the DVD onto your computer first. The only freeware program that can both rip a DVD and convert it into an .AVI file is Handbrake.
