How to Remove Mcafee Firewall Network Filter Miniport

A component of McAfee's Internet Security Suite, the McAfee Firewall Network Filter Miniport is a firewall adapter that blocks unwanted users from accessing your computer and Internet connection. The firewall adapter is installed within your computer's configuration and can cause issues with virtual private networks (VPN), email applications, peer-to-peer applications and other programs that are trying to access your computer's Internet connection. You can remove the McAfee Firewall Network Filter Miniport and keep the McAfee Internet Security Suite installed on your computer system.

Instructions

1. Click "Start">"Run." Enter "cmd" in the "Open:" box.

   If using Windows Vista or Windows 7, click "Start." Enter "cmd" in the "Start Search" box.

2. Press "Enter" or "Return" on your computer's keyboard. A command prompt window will open.

3. Type "NET STOP enterceptagent" at the "C:\" command prompt to stop the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention service. Press "Enter" or "Return."

4. Type "NET STOP firepm" to stop and remove the McAfee Firewall Network Filter Miniport's driver your computer's processes. Press "Enter" or "Return."

5. Type "cd Program Files\McAfee\Host Intrusion Prevention\inf\" to navigate to the directory where the firewall adapter's configuration files are located. Press "Enter" or "Return."

6. Type "installfirehk /u" to remove the McAfee Firewall Network Filter Miniport from your computer. Press "Enter" or "Return."

   The uninstallation process will begin and you will be prompted when the process is complete.

7. Type "NET START enterceptagent" to start the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention service so your system is still protected by the McAfee Internet Security Suite. Press "Enter" or "Return."

8. Type "exit" to return to the Windows operating system. Press "Enter" or "Return."

Tips & Warnings

• If your computer is running slow after removing the McAfee Firewall Network Filter Miniport, restart your system to remove any temporary files left over from the uninstallation process. Click "Start">"Turn Off Computer">"Restart" to restart your system.
