How to Buy Paddle Boats
Paddle boats are small water crafts powered by your own muscles. In order to get these boats in motion you must use your arms or legs to propel the boat through the water. Purchasing your own paddle boat can be an excellent investment if you frequent lakes or rivers, as these small boats provide fun and exercise. Take note that not every paddle boat will be ideal for every body of water. Speak with a water craft specialist at your local outdoor store if you have any questions regarding paddle boat restrictions.

Select the exact type of paddle boat you wish to buy based on your desired use. The four main types of paddle boats are canoes, kayaks, dinghies, and pedal boats. Canoes, dinghies, and pedal boats are ideal for fishing, as they are stable and provide ample room for fishing tackle. Canoes and dinghies are powered by oars and can sit anywhere from two to three passengers, according to the length of the vessel. Kayaks and pedal boats are more commonly used for leisure rides. While kayaks are powered by an oar and can only sit up to two people, pedal boats gain momentum by placing your legs on two pedals and pushing them in a circular motion and can have a seating capacity of up to four passengers.

Visit your local outdoor supply retailer and view the current paddle boat models. Select at least three different models for each type of paddle boat you are interested in. Ask an employee if you can sit inside of the boats. While resting in your potential paddle boats, take note of the comfort level, durability and seating/weight capacity.

Purchase the paddle boat of your choice only after you have reviewed and tested the various features of the boat. Ask the retailer if there is a return policy in case the paddle boat does not work properly on the water.
