How to Clean Mold Off of Drywall

Mold on your drywall is not always a sign that you have a mold problem in your home. According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, mold is considered 'moderate' or acceptable if it is in patches less than one square meter large and there are no more than three of these patches present. But even if it poses no health threat, it can still damage your drywall if left to grow. Clean mold off of your drywall as soon as you spot it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a small bowl with baking soda.

    • 2

Place a few sheets of newspaper under the area you intend to clean to catch any baking soda that may fall as you clean.

    • 3

Wet a rag, and wring it out so that it is damp but not soaking. Don't wet drywall anymore than necessary even when cleaning it.

    • 4

Bunch the rag up into a ball, and dip it into the baking soda so that a portion of the rag is coated in baking soda.

    • 5

Scrub the moldy area in a circular motion with the rag until it is clean.

    • 6

Rinse the rag off, and wring it out so it is only slightly damp, and wipe the area clean.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the mold comes back soon after you clean it, there is a moisture problem somewhere behind the wall. Hire a professional to investigate or eliminate the source of the moisture, or the mold will continue to return.
