How to Blend Two Images in Adobe

Adobe Photoshop is a popular program for graphic editing. The software allows users to create images from scratch or add interesting effects to images. One of Photoshop's features is the Blending Mode option. Blending mode allows users to blend one image into the other by changing the opacity of the image, or the degree to which one image will block the image underneath it.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Photoshop. Then select "File" and "Open" to load your images one by one into the interface. You should have at least two images open in your Photoshop interface. One image will serve as the background layer, and the other image will be placed on top of the background layer and blended into it.

Select the Marque tool (the square shape with dashed lines) on your toolbox.

    • 3

Use your mouse to drag the Marque tool over the image, or a portion of the image, you want to place on top of the other image. Then select the "Edit" menu, and select "Copy" to copy your image.

    • 4

Click on the image in your workspace on which you want to paste your image. Go back to your "Edit" menu and select "Paste."

    • 5

Select the Move tool in your toolbox to move or adjust the location of the pasted image.

    • 6

Select the layer of the pasted image (by default it is called "Layer 1") in the Layers panel on the right side of your interface. Then right-click on it and select "Blending Mode" from the menu.

    • 7

Move the "Opacity" and "Fill Opacity" levers to the left and right to adjust the opacity. The levers are set to 100% by default. As you move each lever to the left, you will notice the top layer beginning to fade and blend into the background image. Adjust the percentage of opacity until you have sufficiently blended the two images together.

    • 8

Go back to the "File" menu and select "Save As." Enter a name and select a format for your new blended image.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can cut any excess remnants of your top layer away by clicking on "Layer Mask" at the bottom of the Layer panel. Lay the mask over the portion of the top layer you want to delete, select the Paintbrush tool and use the mouse to paint over the layer that you want removed.
