How to Fold a Pastry Bag
Many professional decorators prefer a hand-folded pastry bag to a plastic one with attachable tips. By folding your own pastry bag, you can significantly increase your level of control. Attachable pastry bag tips come in set sizes. But a folded pastry bag's tip can be cut to accommodate any size--which can make lettering much easier. But wait until after you fill your pastry bag before cutting the tip. Otherwise it will unravel before you get a chance to use the bag. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut the parchment paper into a perfect square. The size of the square is up to you, but it will dictate the size of your pastry bag.
-
2
Fold the square diagonally in half and crease the fold. Unfold the parchment square and cut along the diagonal to make two 45-45-90 degree triangles. Set one of the triangles aside to use for your next pastry bag.

-
3
Lay the triangle flat on the table. Then take one of the 45-degree-angle edges and curl it over until it meets the 90-degree-angle point and makes a cone shape.
-
4
Line the corners up and tape them together so that they hold as you make your next fold.
-
5
Curl the other 45-degree-angle corner over and behind the cone until it meets the 90-degree-angle corner. Pull it taut so that it lines up with the 90-degree-angle corner.
-
6
Keep holding the recently folded corner in place and lift the cone off of the table. The point where the three corners meet forms a triangle that protrudes from the lip of the cone. Fold that triangle into the interior of the cone and fold it down so you make a crease that is level with the lip of the cone.
-
7
Fill the pastry bag.
-
8
Pinch the top of the cone together and fold it over on itself to make the cuff of the pastry bag.
-
9
Cut the tip to the size you desire.
