Wedding Decorating With Pumpkins
Halloween isn't the only celebration that can make use of the pumpkin anymore. Centering the theme and design of your wedding around pumpkins will not only draw wows from your friends and family, but will give your wedding a one-of-a-kind feel. Pumpkins can be made elegant by using them both as decorations and as items that serve a purpose. You can get as creative as you want, or as subtle. Pumpkins will add a warm theme and ambiance to any autumn wedding.

1
Carve out and clean a small pumpkin, reserving the cap. Line the pumpkin with plastic wrap or aluminum foil followed by a small piece of silk or velvet. Place the wedding bands inside of the pumpkin, and replace the top. Have the ring bearer carry the pumpkin ring holder down the aisle during the ceremony to foreshadow the reception theme.

2
Place miniature dwarf sugar pumpkins at each table setting to act as the name plate. Make a small slit in the top of the stem to hold the name card. Print or hand write the name of each guest on each card, and slide it into the slit.

3
Carve out a small crevice the width and depth of a tea candle in the top of small sugar pumpkins or slightly larger small- to medium-sized pumpkins. Place tea candles inside each carved hole. Place larger candles in shallow holes in the larger pumpkins. Use the pumpkin candle holders to line walkways, adorn dining or buffet tables, or add ambiance to any candle-appropriate location.

4
Hollow out and clean large pumpkins to act as large serving bowls for salads, soups or drinks. This will have to be coordinated with your caterer in order to pull the theme of pumpkin into the food. Edible serving bowls add a great wow factor to many buffet tables.

5
Construct flower vases by hollowing out any size pumpkin and filling it with water. Try to keep the hole at the top fairly small so as to allow the flowers to rest in the vase easier. Unless the pumpkin is taller than it is wide, the flowers used inside of a pumpkin vase should be short, compact flowers such as daisies, chrysanthemums and other tight blossoms that can crowd and spread out horizontally rather than vertically. Select flowers that match pumpkin hues, such as red, copper, orange and yellow. Use the flower vases as the table centerpieces, or place them on pillars or side tables around the room.

6
Paint or carve the profiles of the bride and groom onto the side of a pumpkin. Other wedding images such as bells, names, doves and hearts can also be painted or carved onto the pumpkins. Place the image pumpkins in visible locations, such as on the buffet or drink table or on the gift table.
-
7
Place pumpkins of all sizes and other seasonal gourds around the room; they can border doorways, the dance floor, bars or they can be piled upon their own table. As a wedding favor, a pumpkin table can be made with a variety of sprawling pumpkins for the guests to choose and take home at the end of the night.
