How to Change Bentonite Grease
Bentonite grease is an oil-based product used to waterproof movable engine parts. Bentonite grease is impossible to remove or mix with water, and holds up well in cool and wet environments. Therefore, finding a good organic solvent is necessary to remove or "un-waterproof" bentonite grease.
Things You'll Need
- Organic solvent (toluene, gasoline or degreaser)
- Pressure washer
- Bucket or jar
- Rags
- Cotton swabs
- Tube of bentonite grease
Instructions
-
-
1
Place small, mechanical parts that you are de-greasing into a bucket and pressure wash over the greased areas.
-
2
Remove large chunks of grease with a rag. Since grease is difficult to remove from skin, wear protective gloves.
-
-
3
Soak a rag in solvent and apply the solvent to any large surface being cleaned. Soak small parts in a jar or bucket of the solvent, and let sit for 15 minutes or longer. Remove excess grease with another rag. Repeat the soaking and wiping as necessary. Use cotton swabs dipped in solvent to remove grease in small nooks and crevices.
-
4
Liberally squeeze the tube of bentonite on the parts that are movable to re-apply the grease.

Tips & Warnings
Wear a face mask to protect against the strong vapors emitted by any organic solvent.
Gasoline, toluene, and kerosene are flammable. Keep them away from heat or running engines.
