How to Brighten Your Laptop Monitor on Vista

Many laptops have screen brightness settings built-in to the hardware of the laptop. That is, you can change the screen brightness by pressing a key on the laptop's keyboard. However, when you manually change the brightness settings on your laptop, the settings are not stored or hard coded into your computer's operating system. As an alternative, you can brighten your laptop monitor using Windows Vista display settings. Changing the settings through Vista will store your brightness settings in the operating system as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your laptop and open "Power Options." To do this, click the "Start" menu in the bottom left-corner of the screen. Then select "Control Panel" and "Power Options."

    • 2

Click "Adjust Brightness Displays" located at the bottom of the left pane. This opens the brightness display settings.

    • 3

Increase the brightness of your laptop by sliding the brightness indicator to the right. You can change the brightness settings for two different scenarios: when the computer is plugged in and when it is relying on the battery.

    • 4

Click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the window and your laptop's brightness settings are changed through Vista.

Tips & Warnings

  • A brighter screen depletes the battery life of your laptop faster.
