How to Make Fake Blood Easily

How to Make Fake Blood Easily thumbnail
Fake blood is used for costumes, pranks and entertainment purposes.

Fake blood can be used for a variety of reasons. Makeup artists have worked for years to find an ideal mixture to create bloody scenes for movies, theatrical productions and television programs. Others use fake blood to make a prank more realistic or to spice up a Halloween costume. Regardless of the reason, fake blood is relatively inexpensive and simple to make at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a mixing bowl and spoon that do not easily stain. Ceramics and glass are more appropriate than wood or plastics that can absorb the coloring. Wipe the bowl and spoon free of debris and dust that can alter the final appearance or consistency of the fake blood.

    • 2

Combine the corn syrup and water with the red and yellow food colorings. Mix with the spoon until all ingredients are combined and the color consistency is the same throughout the mixture. Be careful not to splatter any color outside of the bowl. At this time, additional corn syrup or water can be added in small amounts to achieve a thicker or less dense consistency.

    • 3

Adjust the color with additional red or yellow food coloring by adding them in small amounts. For an alternative shade, slowly add a few drops of blue food coloring, stirring and combining the color completely in between each couple of additional drops.

    • 4

Powdered cocoa can also be used in this recipe to create a chocolate fake blood mixture. To do this, simply combine powdered cocoa with 1/2 cup of water before adding corn syrup and red food coloring. Allow the mixture to sit and skim bubbles from the surface. If the color is too dark, lighten it up with the addition of a few drops of yellow food coloring.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fake blood can be very messy. Be sure to wear clothes that can get messy while preparing this mixture.
