How to Make Tube Shaped Pillows
Tube-shaped pillows are sometimes called bolster pillows, Moroccan pillows or neck cushions. Either way, these pillows come in handy to provide extra neck support and look great when tossed on a bed or sofa. Tube-shaped pillows also come in handy when traveling in a car for a quick nap. Make a tube-shaped pillow with just one yard of fabric and a few supplies. Most of the supplies for this project can be found at your local craft store.
Things You'll Need
- 1 bolster cushion form
- 1 yard of fabric
- Matching thread
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- 2 buttons or tassels

1
Measure the length of the pillow form including the ends. Add 1.25 inches to this measurement for a seam allowance. Measure around the pillow form and add 1.25 inches to this measurement for a seam allowance.
-
2
Lay out your chosen fabric on a flat surface. Cut one piece of the fabric to your specified measurements.
-
-
3
Put the right sides of the fabric together and stitch a straight, flat seam lengthwise with your sewing machine. Turn the fabric right side out. You should have formed a fabric tube.
-
4
Fold in the seam allowance on both ends and iron down.
-
5
Sew one end of the fabric tube; create a seam with long, running stitches. You are not sewing the tube shut, but sewing all around the circular opening. The stitches will be used to gather or scrunch together the fabric. Leave about 1 inch of thread hanging on the end. Sew the other end in the same manner.
-
6
Grasp the thread on one end and pull to create a closed end on the tube. Insert the pillow form. Repeat the process with the other end of the tube, pull the thread to tighten the stitches and close the tube. Secure the stitching at both ends with a few stitches.
-
7
Attach tassels or buttons to each end of the cushion and secure.
