How to Delete Windows Vista Log Files

Windows Vista log files are a type of computer file that stores basic information regarding a program on your computer. When an antivirus program performs a scan of your hard drive, for example, it will then create a log file to store the results of that scan. As these log files can build up over time, it is possible for them to be taking quite a bit of space from your hard drive that could be used for bigger and better things. You can quickly and easily delete the Windows Vista log files from your computer using Windows Vista's "Search" feature.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

Click once with your mouse inside the box that reads "Search" in the "Start" menu. This will put your cursor inside this box.

    • 3

Type "*.log" (without the quotation marks) into the "Search" box. This will tell Windows Vista's file search feature that you'd like to compile a list of all files with a .log file extension (which is the extension used by Windows Vista log files), regardless of the actual name of the file. Windows Vista will then automatically search for all files matching this criteria.

    • 4

Right-click on a Windows Vista log file and click "Delete." This will delete that Windows Vista log file from your hard drive. You can then repeat this step for any other Windows Vista log file you'd like to remove from your computer.
