How to Make a 3D Rose Out of Paper

Real flowers are nice, too.

A paper rose is just as beautiful as the real thing, and will last much longer. It makes a delightful romantic gesture for a loved one, or a great way to keep kids entertained on a rainy afternoon. Paper roses look pretty individually and as a bouquet. With only a few easy steps and some household items, you can have a beautiful bunch of roses to give or to keep for yourself.

Things You'll Need

• Cardboard
• Scissors
• Crepe paper
• Tissue paper
• Skewer
• Ruler
• Floral wire

Instructions

1. Cut out a teardrop-shaped piece of cardboard. This will be the stencil for your petals, so the cardboard cutout should be roughly the size of a rose petal. You don't need fancy cardboard for this--you can cut the shape out of an empty cereal box, or other such item.

2. Trace 14 "petals" onto colored crepe paper using your cardboard stencil. Cut the petals out.

3. Tightly wrap and unwrap the three curved portions (top and each side) of each petal tightly around a skewer or similar object. This will give a nice curl to your flower petals.

4. Put one piece of tissue paper on top of another, making sure the edges meet well. Fold the tissue up about 2 cm. Continue folding the tissue this way until the entire tissue is one long strip. Cut off about 8 cm.

5. Unroll the tissue so that you have a long, thin strip. Wrap the strip around the end of a piece of floral wire and glue the edges so that it sticks.

6. Take one of your crepe paper petals and place a drop of glue on the back (the curled edges should be on the opposite side of the glue). Place the petal on the wad of tissue paper and wrap the petal around, so that it looks like the interior petal of a rose.

7. Finish gluing all the petals to your rose in this manner. If you wish your rose to be blooming, instead of a bud, you can gently tug the edges of the crepe paper out.
