Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a DSL service package from your local provider. A DSL modem will be delivered to your home either through the mail or by the provider themselves. The appropriate cords should be included.

    • 2

Turn off and unplug your computer from the power outlet. Remove all cords from the Internet ports on your computer that are used for any other Internet service.

    • 3

Plug one end of your Ethernet cord into the WAN port on the back of your wireless router and the other end to LAN port on your DSL modem. The Ethernet cord will look similar to a phone cord but will be thicker and is typically yellow or green in color.

    • 4

Plug in your phone cord to your DSL modem and into your phone jack on the wall. Some service providers use an additional junction box placed into the wall jack. If you have this box, plug it into the wall jack first, then plug your phone cord into the modem.

    • 5

Turn on your DSL modem by plugging in the electrical cord. Plug in your router along with your computer to power outlets and turn your computer on.

    • 6

Click the "Start" button on your computer and select Internet Options from your menu. Click "Connections" and choose to "Add." The Internet Connection Wizard will pop up. Carefully follow the directions on each screen. Windows 7 users, access your Control Panel from the "Start" menu and select "Networking." From there, you will find "Set up a new Internet Connection."

Tips & Warnings

  • Use small twist ties to bundle any loose cords after installation. This will keep them from getting pulled from the wall or computer ports accidentally.

  • You may need to purchase a longer phone cord than the one provided by the DSL service. A regular phone cord purchased from any retail outlet is suitable.
