Communication is essential in a business or work environment in order to maintain a positive and pleasant atmosphere as well as increase productivity. Although not everyone will agree all the time, you must at least understand the perspective of others on your business team in order to keep communication lines flowing smoothly and coworkers remaining in an amicable and supportive relationship.

1
Relay all pertinent background information in a clear and concise manner. Don't assume your coworkers understand where you are coming from.
-
2
Speak in person instead of email. Emails can often be misconstrued and read in ways the author did not intend. A spoken conversation will always improve clarity.

3
Plan meetings and gatherings both in the office and outside. Having meetings is essential to provide opportunities to voice opinions. Having some meetings in more social environments like a restaurant can often help break down barriers and increase people's comfort level in voicing their thoughts and opinions.
-
4
Listen before speaking. Don't assume you know another person's viewpoint or opinion. Listen intently and pause to consider their words before responding. You may be surprised by what you hear.
-
5
Maintain a suggestion box in the office. Some people may feel more comfortable addressing an issue or idea in an anonymous, non-confrontational way. As long as the suggestions are made in a positive and supportive manner, this helps coworkers of all communication skills to express themselves.
