Peruvian coffee beans are growing in popularity throughout the world because of their balanced acidic flavors. The Urubamba and Chanchamayo valleys of Peru are famous for the complex subtle flavors of their organic shade-grown Arabica coffee beans. The organic coffee bean growing and aging techniques used by Peruvian farmers are gaining favor because of their ability to produce mild aromatic coffees. Things You'll Need

  • Drip:
  • Coffee grinder
  • Unbleached paper filter
  • Filtered water
  • Coffee mug
  • Cream and sugar (optional)
  • Espresso:
  • Tamper
  • Demitasse cup or shot glass

Instructions

      Grind the Peruvian beans to a medium coarse consistency in a coffee grinder.

      Line the drip coffee maker's brew basket with an unbleached paper filter and fill the reservoir to the required level for the amount of coffee you want to brew.

      Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of ground Peruvian coffee to the filter for every cup of coffee you are brewing. Use slightly less coffee grounds for a darker roast and slightly more for a mild or light roast, according to personal taste.

      Turn on the drip coffee maker and set it to run a normal brew cycle.

      Fill a coffee mug 1/3 full of the brewed Peruvian coffee. Allow it to cool for a minutes and then take tiny sips to taste it. Savor the subtle nuances of the freshly brewed coffee alone. Add cream and sugar, if desired.

    Espresso

      Grind the Peruvian beans to a fine consistency in a coffee grinder.

      Fill the espresso maker's brewing basket with the finely ground Peruvian coffee according to the machine manufacturer's directions.

      Compact the coffee in the basket using a tamper, which evenly distributes and packs down the grounds, preventing them from escaping the filter basket. Load the basket into the espresso machine.

      Fill the espresso machine's reservoir with filtered water and seal it securely.

      Slide a small demitasse cup or shot glass under the brew basket spout and run a normal brewing cycle.

      Take tiny sips to taste the brewed Peruvian coffee when it has cooled for ten seconds. Savor the subtle nuances of the freshly brewed coffee alone, then add cream and sugar, if desired.

  • Always buy whole coffee beans when buying single origin coffees to get the freshest, fullest flavor out of the brew.
