How to Reboot Windows XP Without a Disc
Rebooting your computer is perhaps the one thing that all users have in common. No matter what else you do with your computer, everyone has to reboot sooner or later. There are two main methods of rebooting--and neither of them requires a disc. One is the co-called approved way or the way that the computer manuals specify; the other is the unapproved method.

Reboot the computer using the approved method. Click "Start," then click on "Shut down" and wait for the pop-up window. This window will give you several choices. Choose "Restart" and click "OK." The computer will shut itself down and then restart. Once it has finished restarting, you have rebooted the computer.

Reboot the computer using the unapproved method. Press the power button on the front of your computer. Depending on the setup, you may need to hold down the power button for 10 seconds. The computer will turn off. Push the power button again to turn the computer back on. Rebooting from the unapproved method is complete.

Reboot by using the other unapproved method. For computers with operating systems older than Windows Vista, it is possible to reboot by pressing "Ctrl-Alt-Del" at the same time, twice. This doesn't always work in the newer versions of Windows. It will shut down the computer. In some cases, based on the manufacturer of the computer, the computer will either be turned off completely or restart on its own. If the computer is turned off, press the power button to turn on the computer.
