You can find free legal downloads online to supplement your purchases if you are willing to do the proverbial legwork. Load your MP3 players with free music from person-to-person file-sharing interfaces, torrents, blogs, promotional websites and special direct giveaways from your favorite musicians.

• USB connector cable

Instructions

1. Determine the website or interface from which you wish to legally download music files. Download and try person-to-person file sharing interfaces such as BitTorrent and Limewire if you are already aware that the content you will search for is permissible to share. Otherwise, visit one of many distributors of licensed free content, such as online retailers, personal artist websites and artist social networking profiles.

2. Click on the "Download" link to save the music to your computer.

3. Connect your MP3 player to your computer using a USB connector cable. Insert one end of the USB connector cable into the MP3 player. Insert the other end of the cable into an available port on your computer.

4. Wait for the computer to recognize your MP3 player as an attached device. Open the MP3 player's device icon to present a file folder window.

5. Open the file folder containing the free music files you have downloaded. Drag and drop the music files into the MP3 player's file folder window or directly onto the MP3 player's device icon.
