How to Start a Fashion Club at School

Starting a fashion club can be done with a bit of planning.

Fashion is an interest and passion of people of all ages, especially young adults. Whether they like to browse fashion magazines or design clothing, young people who are into fashion often want to socialize with others that share their interest. Starting a school fashion club is an ideal way to not only socialize with like-minded fashion lovers, but to inform others about this very diverse, creative industry.

Instructions

1. Check with your school administrator to see if you need to secure a sponsor for your club. If so and you're in high school, ask an art teacher or any faculty member that is typically stylish in appearance who may be more open to sponsoring your club. If you are in college and need a sponsor, ask a faculty member in the interior design, fashion design or fine arts department. People in these fields generally view fashion as an art form and something worthy of discussion.

2. Develop a purpose and name for your fashion club. Though the name can be as creative as you'd like as long as it is not derogatory, the purpose is what will determine who will join your club. For example, your club may be for aspiring fashion designers or future fashion industry professionals, or its purpose may be to discuss fashion and emerging trends or to swap fashions while socializing.

3. Fill out any forms your school requires to become a recognized organization. Usually, you will need at least three members, guidelines for membership, a name for your club, a stated purpose and description of your membership structure.

4. Determine what activities your fashion club will host---activities are important for attracting and retaining club membership. For example, you could hold an annual fashion show and gala, have monthly speakers that work in the fashion industry, take trips to local fashion manufacturing facilities or design firms, sponsor movie nights centered on fashion or produce a monthly fashion newsletter or mini-magazine just for your school. During awards season, you could host watch parties and discuss what celebrities wear as well as the creativity (or lack thereof) of the designs on the red carpet.

5. Promote your fashion club by holding membership-drive events, performing community service in your community, launching an informational website or blog and partnering with more popular, well-established clubs to hold events.
