Digital Concepts makes some of the least expensive digital cameras. Combine this with an inexpensive software and you have a device that can pull double duty as both a digital camera and a webcam. If you are on the road you can use the same device to help keep in touch with friends and family via video calls, while taking photos and capturing memories of your time away.

Instructions

    • 1

Acquire a video capture adapter. This allows your Digital Concepts camera to function as a webcam. You can purchase these online from a number of stores including Amazon, TigerDirect and DealExtreme (see link in Resources below). As of 2010 these cost between $10.99 and $49.

Connect the three color-coded cables from the video adapter into their corresponding colors on the audio video cables. In other words, plug the yellow cable into the yellow, the white cable into the white and the red into the red.

    • 3

Plug the USB end of the video adapter into the USB port on your computer.

    • 4

Windows will detect the new hardware and you should see a message asking to install the drivers. Choose "Have Drivers" and "Browse." Insert the CD that came with the adapter into the disc drive and click "Next," then wait for the Windows to install the drivers. When it's done click "Finish."

    • 5

Plug the audio/video cables into the audio/video jack on your Digital Concepts digital camera.

    • 6

Click the "Start" menu and go to "My Computer." A list of drives will appear and one of them will be the video capture adapter. Click on its icon and your camera will begin functioning, allowing you to see on your screen whatever it is seeing.
