How to Make Grapefruit Infused Rum
Grapefruit infused rum is a very simple homemade infused liquor that can be used in a variety of different cocktails. When used in classic summer and tropical drinks like the Mai Tai, grapefruit infused rum adds a special, different touch to a drink that has a familiar taste to many. Infused alcohols are also wonderful for cooking, and grapefruit infused rum can be used as a marinade for meat and used to flambé fresh fruits that can be served with homemade ice cream for a simple, exciting dessert. Things You'll Need
- 3 cups grapefruit, peeled and thinly sliced
- Large pitcher with tight-fitting lid
- 750 mL rum
- Re-usable coffee filter
- Clean 750 mL bottle
- Paper or plastic label
- Waterproof marker

Put the thinly sliced grapefruit pieces in a large pitcher and cover the grapefruit with 750 mL rum. Place the lid on the pitcher.

Store the pitcher in a cool, dark and dry place for 21 days, shaking daily to recombine the ingredients.

Strain the grapefruit of the rum through a coffee filter, catching the infused rum in a clean 750 mL bottle.

Put a paper or plastic label on the bottle. Date and identify it with a waterproof marker.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to make the infused rum a bit sweeter, add 1/4 cup sugar syrup along with the grapefruit.
Discard the infused rum after the one year mark. The liquor will have lost much of its grapefruit flavor by then.
