Instructions

    • 1

Select several pieces of cardstock in a color or pattern that coordinates with your shower theme. Pastel blue, pink and yellow are easy choices, but you can select any design that will complement the party's decorations.

    • 2

Cut the cardstock into squares three times larger than the desired size for the base of the basket. A good size for a small favor basket is four inches, for which you would need to cut a 12-inch square. Most cardstock already measures 12" x 12", so you may not need to trim it if you choose to use a 4-inch basket.

    • 3

Use a ruler and pencil to divide the paper into nine even squares, three across and three down. Draw your dividing lines very lightly on the side of the paper that will become the inside of the basket. For a 4-inch basket, you will draw nine 4-inch squares.

    • 4

Cut along the vertical lines between the top three squares and bottom three squares. Leave the lines between the middle three squares intact. You will be making four cuts, none of which go all the way through the paper.

    • 5

Fold the paper inward along the top and bottom lines to create a crease and then unfold. Fold and unfold the side flaps in the same way to create a crease on the sides. Fold the center squares at the top and bottom of the paper in along the horizontal lines until they are standing straight up.

    • 6

Lift the side flaps so that the top and bottom squares on each side overlap the center square. Only their corners should overlap each other. These overlapping squares create the front and back of the basket. The remaining sides will lean outward slightly.

    • 7

Hold the three squares so that they overlap and punch a hole in the center of the basket with a hole punch. This is where you will secure the three overlapping squares to one another.

    • 8

Cut handles for your basket out of coordinating cardstock, measuring about 12 inches long, and 1 inch wide. Punch a hole in the center of the handle at either end.

    • 9

Place the handle on the inside of the basket. Secure the three overlapping sides and handle end together with a paper fastener by passing it through all four layers of cardstock and opening the ends of the fastener on the inside of the basket. Repeat for the opposite side.

    • 10

Decorate the finished basket as desired. Use ribbon, stickers and scrapbooking embellishments to dress it up. A sticker over the paper fastener on either side of the basket will easily conceal the gold stud.
