How to Customize a Dell Computer

You can customize your own Dell

Dell computers have been popular for quite a few years, which has made Dell a larger and more successful computer retailer. One of the things Dell is known for is the fact that they let you choose from many options to customize your Dell to your specifications. Because Dell is a large corporation, they don't let you customize every single piece of hardware, so even in customizing your Dell before you purchase it, there is a limit to what you can choose. Further customizing however, can be done on your own.

Instructions

1. Evaluate your use for the computer. Before you go off just picking the fastest, most expensive or most technologically advanced computer, it's important to understand what you will be using the computer for and what is really most important, especially since many people can't afford or don't need to purchase the best computer available.

2. Go to Dell's website and choose a system. The systems are listed by business or personal or other needs and then separated by size and product families. Search through the models to find what is closest to your needs.

3. Click the customize button to allow you to make changes to the basic configuration. Make the final product as close to what you want as possible. If, however, you want a specific video card and only that card, don't upgrade to the best video card. Choose the cheapest because you will be replacing it on your own. Purchase your Dell by clicking on the checkout button.

4. Buy other hardware such as a Blu Ray DVD writer, or extra memory. Whatever options were not available, find the hardware you want and purchase it from a computer retailer. Remove the pieces of your Dell that are not adequate and install the hardware you purchased from the store. Memory can be swapped out in a few minutes and be cheaper to buy yourself and install sometimes as well.
