How to Make Your Own Spirograph

How to Make Your Own Spirograph thumbnail
Create your own spirograph.

Being able to make your own spirograph means being able to create a beautiful piece of circular artwork with very little effort. Using spirographs can turn even the least artistic person into an artist. The variety of designs possible is infinite and no one design is going to be the same as another. You will also be able to change the colors, giving your spirograph a whole new look.

Instructions

  1. Myoats

    • 1

Navigate to Myoats.com. (See the link in Resources.)

    • 2

Click on the "Join Now" button beneath the spirograph.

    • 3

Fill in the form as indicated with your user name, email, password and verification code. Click on the box indicating you have read the terms and conditions. Click on "Submit."

    • 4

Navigate to your email and open your Inbox. Locate the confirmation email, then click on the link inside to confirm your account. This will take you back to Myoats where you can log in to your account.

    • 5

      Login to your Myoats account.

    • 6

Click on the "Create" link at the top of the screen.

    • 7

Place your cursor in the middle of the blank window when it opens and begin moving your mouse around. The online program will use your drawing to create a spirograph.

    • 8

Save your spirograph by clicking on the "File" drop-down menu at the far top left of the screen.

    Wordsmith Spirograph

    • 9

Go to Wordsmith. (See the link below in Resources.) You will see a spirograph with a series of bars that have tickers to the right of it. Each bar is labeled for an item that will change the look of the current spirograph so that you can make it your own.

    • 10

For the first bar, change the fixed circle radius by moving its ticker left or right with your mouse. This changes the design itself within the spirograph.

    • 11

On the second bar, move its ticker left or right with your mouse. This changes the shape and size of the design within the spirograph.

    • 12

Change the moving circle offset by moving its ticker left or right with your mouse. This causes the shape of your spirograph to either become less circular if you move it to the left or more circular if you move it to the right.

    • 13

Change the moving circle by selecting either "Inside" or "Outside" by clicking on the circle next to your choice. This causes the spirograph to get either smaller if you choose inside and larger if you choose outside.

    • 14

Change the amount of red color in your spirograph by moving its ticker left or right with your mouse. Moving it to the left will reduce the amount of red color and moving it to the right will increase the amount of red color.

    • 15

Change the amount of green color in your spirograph by moving its ticker to the left or right with your mouse. Moving it to the left will reduce the amount of green color and moving it to the right will increase the amount of green color.

    • 16

Change the amount of blue in your spirograph by moving its bar to the left or the right with your mouse. Moving it to the left will reduce the amount of blue color and moving it to the right will increase the amount of blue color.

    • 17

Change the color of your spirograph to be single colored, multicolored or randomly colored by clicking on the circle next to your choice.

    • 18

Change the revolutions in radians by moving its ticker to the left or the right with your mouse. Moving it to the right reduces the number of revolutions in radians, while moving it to the left increases them.

    • 19

Select whether you want your spirograph made from lines or dots by clicking on the circle next to either "Lines" or "Points."

    NIEHS Kids' Page

    • 20

Go to NIEHS Kids' Page. (See the link in Resources below.)

    • 21

Scroll down to the middle of the page to the "Design Your Own Spirograph" section.

    • 22

Move the tickers on the bars on the right-hand side of the spirograph to change the shape and color until you get the design and color you want.
