How to Make a Candy House

How to Make a Candy House thumbnail
Make a candy house in the same way as a gingerbread house.

Candy can be a decoration as well as a sweet treat. Making a candy house is a fun craft activity that results in an edible tabletop decor piece. Any type of candy can be incorporated into your design when making a candy house, and kids will have fun deciding which confections will adorn the sugary shacks. Try making a candy house for a rainy day project or an upcoming holiday dessert table.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the bottom of your double boiler with water and place it on the stove over high heat. Put some chocolate chips in the top pan to melt them.

    • 2

Break four candy bars in half, so that each half is equal in size. Dip your paintbrush into the melted chocolate and apply it to the ends of each candy bar. Press the edges of the bars together to form a four sided house.

    • 3

Cut two identical triangles from the remaining candy bar with a sharp knife. Dip your paintbrush back into the melted chocolate and apply it along the base of each triangle. Place one triangle on top of the front wall of the house and the other on top of the back wall.

    • 4

Dip your knife into the frosting and spread it over the top edges of the house. Cover both flat sides, as well as the tops of the triangles.

    • 5

Cut another chocolate bar in half and lay a half on each slanted side of the house. Lean them together at the top so they cover the open top of the house. This is your roof.

    • 6

Spread frosting over the roof and press candies into it. Choose candies that have flat surfaces, such as gumdrops or peppermint wheels, which will stay on better than rounded candies.

    • 7

Spread frosting on the front of the house and press lengths of licorice into the frosting to form a door and a window.

    • 8

Spread a thin layer of frosting over a cake plate or cake board to make the yard.

    • 9

Spread green sprinkles all over the plate or board to make grass. Place your house on top, carefully.

    • 10

Press jellybeans and other candies throughout the yard to make flowers or rocks.
