Taking apart a Maytag washing machine is a job that can be done in less than a half hour. Maytag is part of the GE line of appliances and uses many of the same parts and systems. Occasionally, you will need to take the washer apart in order to access the parts like the motor, water pump and belt that need to be replaced because of wear or breakage. You can take the cabinet apart yourself and save the expense of having someone else do the work for you. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the electrical cord of the Maytag washer from the electrical outlet before attempting to take the washer apart.

      Turn the water supply off at the shut off valves behind the washer and detach the end caps from the control console by pressing in on the caps and pulling them off by hand.

      Remove the screws from the front of the control console with a screwdriver and set the screws out of the way.

      Lift the control console up and pull it forward until the console is loose from the washer top, flipping the console back so that it rests on the back hinges.

      Unplug the electrical harness connector from the washer top, pulling it up by hand to disconnect the connector.

      Locate the metal clips that sit underneath the control console and use a screwdriver to lift the clips up and remove from the cabinet.

      Lift the lid open on top of the washer and pull the top forward holding one hand on the lid and one on the inside of the washer basket, lifting the top cover off the cabinet base.

      Set the top cover out of the way so you have access to the inside of the washer.

  • Always unplug the Maytag washer machine electrical cord from the power source before attempting to take the washer apart.
