Traditionally, most homes were built with bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, dining room and living room. If there was a television to be watched, it was placed in the living room. But recently the trend has been to larger televisions and complex sound systems, which has ed to the popularity of the media room. A media room is usually a room designed specifically to watch television. You can add a media room to your house by following a few basic guidelines. Does this Spark an idea?

      Choose the area of your home where you will build the media room. Choose an area of the basement that rarely gets used, the den or even a small, unused bedroom.

      Design your media room. Place your seating so that all viewers have clear vision paths to the television. Decide where you want to put the television, and where the speakers will go for surround sound.

      Establish a power source. A media room can place high demands on your electrical system. Make sure your circuit box can provide enough power.

      Paint the walls a darker color, like a deep red. This will enhance the color of the television and the event you are viewing.

      Hook up your electronics. Attach the cable if you have cable television. Test the audio and video to make sure everything is working properly.

  • Consider adding carpeting to help keep the sound within the room.

  • If you have to add wiring to your media room, consult an electrician first.
