Instructions

    • 1

Paint the walls of the room in a pale buttery yellow. This color will serve as a subdued backdrop to the rest of the brightly colored room without taking away from the other decor. A subtle shade of yellow also leaves plenty of room for redecorating in the future as it can go with other themes, or you can paint over it without too much trouble.

    • 2

Hang a long swag of red material from the ceiling over a central feature in the room such as a dressing table or bed. Use two hooks to hold either side of the piece up to the ceiling, and let the material drape down in an upside down "V" shape. The furniture placed beneath the material should keep the ends of the swag separated, but you can also use tiebacks secured to the wall further down for this purpose.

    • 3

Use matching red material for the curtains. Stick window clings of circus animals and clowns to the window to give the illusion of a circus tent that you can peek inside.

    • 4

Use bright, primary colors for the bedspread, pillows and other linens in the room. Make a quilt featuring circus animals and acrobats, or sew bold polka dots onto a plain bedspread for a lively look.

    • 5

Fill a pet net in the corner with stuffed circus animals. Include elephants, lions and even some stuffed clowns.

    • 6

Paint the furniture in bright primary colors, or stick embellishments such as polka dots cut from wallpaper onto the sides. Replace plain drawer pulls with bright colors and wacky shapes.
