How to Change the Firewall Settings for Windows XP SP1
A firewall reviews all data that comes on to a user’s computer and checks it for maliciousness. If the firewall determines that the data is safe, then it slows it to pass through. However, if the data is determined to be a threat, the firewall will prevent the data from entering. A firewall can prevent such threats as worms from getting to a user’s computer. Viruses hide inside other files, however, and are not usually detected by a firewall.
