Texas Two-Step Dance Instructions
If you live in Texas, you know you can't go to any prom, wedding or social event without doing the Texas Two-Step. If you aren't a Texan but enjoy dancing to country music, the Two-Step is a basic and easy step, once you get the hang of it. Knowing how to keep the beat to the music is the key to the Two-Step and, once you get it, you'll be surprised how simple it is.

Choose some music with a medium-tempo when you are first starting out. Stand facing your partner. Put your right arm around her waist and bend your left arm and grasp her right hand. Your partner should place her left arm on your shoulder.

On the first beat, step forward with your left foot. Your partner should step back with her right foot. On the second beat, step forward with your right foot; your partner steps back with her left foot.

On the third beat, step forward with the left foot and hold or pause a beat, while your partner steps back with the right foot and holds. Step forward with the right foot and hold a beat; your partner moves back with the left foot and holds.

Perfect timing of the two-step should ideally be quick, quick, slow, slow. The first and second steps are quick, while the third and fourth are slow. Try not to bounce when you step; rather, make your steps smooth and use a gliding movement.

Tips & Warnings
Once you begin to feel more confident, choose faster music and build up speed.
The Texas Two-Step is also called the Country Western Two-Step.
