How to Design a Menu for a Restaurant Game to Play Online
A menu for an online restaurant game should include a specific theme, recognizable menu items and some less common items. Base your design around actual recipes and approach the design as if you were opening a restaurant and designing its menu. Visit a variety of restaurants for inspiration.

1
Choose a theme. Decide what type or types of restaurant you want in your game. Whether the game is going to take place in one restaurant or several, each restaurant needs a theme. Think of the restaurants you frequent. Choose from themes such as Italian, Mexican, American, Tex-Mex or Japanese.

2
Select a type of restaurant. Decide what type of meals you want served in your game. Will the restaurant be primarily breakfast, lunch or dinner? If you plan for your entire game to take place in one restaurant, you may choose to have all three meal types available and have different serving times.

Research recipes for your chosen theme and type. Use the internet or visit local restaurants that match your chosen theme and type. Choose some meals that may be common to your theme, such as spaghetti for an Italian restaurant, and choose some recipes that may be more uncommon. If the game revolves around putting together the meals, ensure you have a solid understanding of the ingredients required for each recipe. However, if the game revolves around serving these items, it becomes less important to know the ingredients.

Price your menu items. If the game will be based on real-world currency, make a grocery list and estimate how much a meal would cost. If using a fictional currency, base the prices on the complexity of the recipe and the ingredients needed to make it. A menu item that requires truffles will be significantly more expensive than one that requires mushrooms because a truffle is a rare and expensive commodity.

Tips & Warnings
If your game is intended to be realistic, keep your menu as close to existing recipes as possible.
Stick with one or two themes per restaurant in the game. When you go out to eat, take notice of how real restaurants tend to stick to a theme. This will make it easier to plan the menu and choose meals.
