How to Test for a Bad Hard Drive
Computer components and equipment can show signs of weariness from time to time. It can happen to software and hardware. One such part is the hard drive of the computer. Data is stored in a hard disk in sectors known as fixed slots. Every time you access anything on your computer, data is retrieved from such slots. However, these slots can become corrupted due to improper shutdown, viruses or malware. Such sectors are said to be bad sectors, and the hard drive having such sectors is known as a bad hard drive.

Find the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. Double-click on the icon to open it.

Go to "C:\" and right-click on it. Select "Properties." A new window will pop up.

Click on the "Tools" tab in the Properties window of "C:\" and the Tools menu page will open.

Click the "Check Now" button. (Usually, it's the first option under the "Error Checking" box on the Tools menu page.) A new window with two check boxes will pop up. Check both the boxes. Then click the " Start" button on the check-box page. Error-checking of your disk will begin.

Tips & Warnings
Sometimes the checking for errors is not carried out immediately, but is scheduled for the next boot-up. In that case, follow through with the message the computer shows and restart your computer to check your bad hard disk.
