How to Make Wax Fragrance Tarts
Wax tarts, similar to potpourri, gently scent your home and are surprisingly easy to make. You probably have most of the tools to make them in your kitchen already. Wax tarts scent a room without using harsh chemicals or the danger of open flames. They disperse fragrance through your room when placed in a tart burner--usually a ceramic dish supported by a base that holds a candle or bulb to warm the wax tart. Make your own wax tarts for use at home or as homemade gifts.
Things You'll Need
- Wax flakes (for candle-making)
- Double-boiler
- Muffin tin
- Vegetable oil
- Scented candle oils
- Concentrated wax dye
- Candy thermometer

Fill the bottom of your double boiler with water and pour wax flakes into the top pan. Place the double-boiler onto your stove over medium-high heat.

Grease a muffin tin with vegetable oil. The muffin tin will act as a mold for your wax tarts.

Pour your concentrated candle dye and scent oil into your melted wax. Mix thoroughly.

Test the temperature of your wax with a candy thermometer and pour it into the muffin tin when it reaches 135 degrees. Pour each tart about 1/2 inch thick.

Place the muffin tin on a flat surface to cool overnight. Flip the tin over to remove the tarts and use them in your tart burner.
