Microsoft Outlook Express is an application that allows you to send and receive email. The software is included with Windows XP and 2000. The Outlook Express software is compatible with other email servers including a Lotus Notes hosts. The difference between connecting with a non-native host is the type of protocol used to connect to the email server, which is also supported by Outlook Express.

Instructions

      Open Outlook Express and click the "Tools" menu item. In the selection listed, click "Accounts." This opens a list of accounts currently configured on the machine.

      Click the "Add" button and select "Mail" from the options. This opens a wizard that guides you through the process. Click "Next" at the opening window.

      Enter your full name into the text box labeled "Display Name." The name is what is shown to your recipients when they receive your email messages. Click the "Next" button.

      Enter your email address. This is your full email addressed used to return messages when users reply to you. Click the "Next" button.

      Select "IMAP" from the list of protocols in the next window. Enter your incoming and outgoing email server. This server is provided by your network administrator or website provider that hosts your email messages. Click the "Next" button.

      Enter your Lotus Notes user name and password. This is the user name you use to connect to Lotus Notes, and it is also provided by your network administrator. Click the "Next" button.

      Click the "Finish" button on the following screen. Your Outlook Express email client is now configured to receive and send email from your Lotus Notes server.
