Igloo Making Instructions
Igloos are an enigma to most people. How can anyone possibly stay warm in a house made out of snow and ice? Building a model igloo is an ideal way to study the Inuit culture and to learn how it is possible to survive in a frozen abode. Even if you don't live in a cold climate, you can make your own little igloo with just a few easy to find supplies.

1
Prepare several trays of ice cubes. Fill some of the trays completely full, some of them half full and some of them three quarters full. If you don't have a large freezer, or multiple ice trays, this may take a while.
-
2
Sprinkle salt on the cookie sheet. Arrange 12 of the full-size ice cubes in a circle on the salted sheet. Place the sheet back in the freezer until the cubes freeze in place on the cookie sheet. The salt causes the sides of the ice cubes touching it to melt slightly, and placing it in the freezer causes it to re-freeze.
-
-
3
Blend several ice cubes in a blender with enough water to make a slushy mixture.
-
4
Remove the cookie sheet and proceed with the second layer. Dip one side of each ice cube in the salt and place on top of the base layer. Line each cube up between two on the bottom and fill the gaps with your slushy mixture.
-
5
Build additional layers using smaller ice cubes as you go and re-freezing between layers. As the layers get smaller, a dome will form. Leave a small hole in the center at the top of the igloo, but continue to fill in the other gaps with the slushy mixture.
-
6
Line up two rows of ice cubes lengthwise to form the walls of the doorway, and use smaller cubes and the slushy mix to finish it.
-
7
Pat a thin layer of the slushy mix over the entire model igloo and place it in the freezer until it is solid.
