Dealing with a boss on a power trip takes great patience

Handling a boss on a power trip is no easy task. A boss that thinks that the world revolves around him or her creates an atmosphere of uneasiness, contempt and outright discouragement among the employees who work at a company. Do your best to contain your emotions when dealing with a boss on a power trip.

Instructions

    • 1

Give your boss the benefit of the doubt. Understand that some of the actions which your boss displays may be character traits of which he or she is unaware. Do not come to the conclusion they abusing their power until you know they are acting this way on purpose.

    • 2

Be real with your boss. Communicate the way you are feeling. Let your boss know that your feelings have been hurt by some of the things they have said and done. Explain to your boss that you want to make him aware of this fact because you place a high value on working at this company and you mean no disrespect toward him.

    • 3

Communicate your feelings quickly. Remember that feelings which are kept inside can erupt into huge outbursts which may get you fired. Instead of keeping things bottled up, speak to your boss to communicate exactly how you feel.

    • 4

Get right to the point. Let your boss know that when they perform a certain activity, it makes you feel a certain way. Ensure that they understand exactly what they are doing that is causing you to struggle.

    • 5

Communicate your feelings at the appropriate time. Do not share these types of feelings during a meeting, at a crowded lunch table or at a holiday party. Speak to your boss at a location where it is just the two of you.

    • 6

Be willing to leave your job. If you are in a situation where your boss continues to be on a power trip, search for another job before you relinquish your present position. Leave your current job only after you have received an offer to work at another company. Shake the hand of your boss when you leave and do not burn any bridges by treating them rudely.
