How to Make Your Own Christmas Word-Find thumbnail
Make a personalized word-find for your next Christmas party.

Word-find or word-search puzzles are popular with children as well as adults. A sheet of paper has a grid covered in random letters, with a list of words nearby. By searching the letters, you find the words hidden in the grid. Circle each word as you find it in the grid and cross off each word until you finish the puzzle. Make your own Christmas word-find puzzle with holiday words and personal details such as family names and remembered events. Hand them out at family gatherings or club meetings for a holiday surprise.

Create a list of words from which you will build your puzzle. Use Christmas words as well as personal words to make this puzzle special. Add family names, club functions or words that jog holiday memories, depending on who will be receiving your puzzle. Make a list of at least 30 words, unless the puzzle recipients are very small children. In that case, make the list between 10 and 15 words.

Log in to one of the many puzzle-making programs online. Many educator sites have them as aids for teachers. The Discovery Channel has a versatile puzzle maker, the one at Armored Penguin offers a variety of fonts and there is a puzzle generator at A to Z Teacher Stuff that creates grids in different shapes.
