For the bookworm on a budget, the matter of finding more reading material without cringing at the price shouldn't be a challenge. Used paperbacks are plentiful, available in a wide range of genres, and in many cases, gloriously cheap.

Patronize the used bookstores in your area. Most used bookstores are stocked with paperback copies of old classics, contemporary literature, mysteries, romances, and more. Used bookstores are also excellent places to find rare or out-of-print paperbacks.

Find out if your library holds book sales. Depending on the library, you may be able to find paperbacks in good condition for a dollar a piece or even cheaper. At the same time, you will be contributing to a great cause: helping your library to better continue its work in your community.

Check out garage and yard sales. Many people will try to unload their old paperbacks at extremely low prices. Of course, there is no guarantee as to selection, and the total book supply may consist of one box of yellowed Harlequins and out-of-date textbooks. Nonetheless, there's always the thrill of the hunt, as well as the chance of a great deal or a quirky find.

Search online. This is one of the best and most guaranteed ways to find a used paperback if you have a particular title in mind. Used book prices on online stores such as Half.com, Bn.com and Amazon.com can range from a few bucks below the retail price to a penny, plus the cost of shipping. If you have a few paperbacks you no longer read, you can also trade them in for credits towards new ones at PaperbackSwap.com (you can purchase credits, too).

Tips & Warnings
Be careful when ordering a used paperback online. As you will not be able to see it for yourself before you buy, you may find that the paperback has a loose spine, is heavily underlined or even missing pages. Make sure to read not only the seller's description of the book, but their customer reviews as well.
